There is a column at the Gainesville Sun entitled “Sexy vampires are destroying our nation’s children”–which explains why Twilight and True Blood are the cause of all evil with our nation’s youth. No, I’m not kidding–

"Despite the recent influx of vampire-related content into the mainstream media and the youthful enthusiasm that accompanied it, vampirism still remains a dangerous threat to our nation’s children. Unchecked interest in vampires can lead to unfortunate summer wardrobe choices, rickets and diabetes. We can’t afford to lose our kids to these flashy, sexy, fly-by-night vampire impersonators who continue to fill their heads with untruths about the vampire lifestyle."

MTV Ian Somerhalder: Thanks 'Twilight"

With the “Twilight” phenomenon remaining undead for quite a while longer and with “True Blood” taking over HBO again this summer, it was only a matter of time before the CW decided to adapt the cult-classic books “The Vampire Diaries” into a TV show. And, when the show does make its debut this fall, Twilighters everywhere will have another way to get their hot vampire guy fix.


“['Twilight'] is a huge phenomenon,” “Lost” alumnus Ian Somerhalder, who plays a vampire in the new show, admitted to MTV News. “Quite possibly and inarguably, yes [we have a show because of it], so I’m not going to complain. I haven’t seen ['Twilight'] yet, so I don’t know how it compares, but yeah, it’s good that they’re around.”

Want to make something special for your favorite Twilight fan’s birthday? Whip up a cake just like the one seen in the New Moon trailer. Sure, there was some movie magic involved (the actual “cake” was fake), but the striped icing effect was the edible creation of confectioner Thomas Haas, owner of Thomas Haas Fine Chocolates in Vancouver. Haas’ wife Lisa walked us through the how-tos of recreating the confection.
